In 2025 the New Zealand Football Foundation (NZFF) decided to support the Milo Fantails project, investing $1,000 into each Fantails hub in New Zealand to help the delivery of footballing sessions and coaching to grassroots girls under 12.
Since 2023 New Zealand Football (NZF) have run fantails projects all over New Zealand. They sought to increase the number of young females playing football across the country by providing hubs where they could make friends, develop their skills and fall in love with football. This year (2025) the New Zealand Football Foundation (NZFF) invested in this cause to support the development of grassroots football for women. This project aligns perfectly with the NZFF's mission of removing barriers to participating in football, giving young girls the opportunity to get involved in football no matter their ability, background or family finances.

Through our funding we hope to support the Fantails project to deliver structured and valuable sessions across the Aotearoa, make sessions affordable and accessible to all and allow young girls to have access to high-level equipment, facilities and coaching so they have the necessary resources to flourish.

Fantails facilitate for thousands of female children, who are often outnumbered in mixed gendered clubs, to play football under safe, nurturing and friendly conditions with girls of similar interests and ages. This allows them to find new friends as they discover football and build a community under the shared interest of football, helping foster their confidence and healthy lifestyle habits!

Every team needs supporters. At the New Zealand Football Foundation we are so grateful for our partners who believe in Football For Good just as much as we do. They know the power of sport to make real change in society and they are committed to helping us do the māhi to support our communities. The generosity of our partners is crucial to enable us to support so many worthy projects.
