At the 2026 Sport & Recreation Awards, New Zealand football historian Barry Smith was recognised with the Sir Eion Edgar and Jan, Lady Edgar Lifetime Achievement Award for Services to Football, celebrating his extraordinary contribution to the game in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The award, presented by New Zealand Football CEO Andrew Pragnell, honours Barry’s lifelong dedication to preserving and documenting the history of football in New Zealand.
